LIGHT OF UNDERSTANDING

In the freshness of the morning, I become sunshine

In the darkness of the night, I shine as the moon

In spring of hope, I blossom in every tree

In autumn of acceptance, I get blown away

This is the light of my understanding

This is the light that has made me free!

Faraway in an unknown land

My sentient consciousness still thrives

As the tiger lurking in the mangrove forest

As the deer by the river ready to flee

As the hidden hunter, seeking both their precious hides

My struggling sentience, lives and strives!

In the concrete jungle of a forgotten ghetto

I take the suffering form, of every human soul

The homeless cripple begging by the road

The corrupt official bending the rule

The penniless mother weeping over her starving child

The cold blooded man guiltless after murder

I am each; I am them all!

This is light of my understanding

This is the light that has made me free

Empathy takes every form; and compassion fills every soul

And when consciousness flows out of the shell of the ego

You too friend can break free!

SIX MEN IN A ROTTING SOCIETY

The eager hangman waits his turn, to pull the fateful lever!

The crowds gather around, in feverish cheer!

The guilty are paraded; naked and neutered except for their noose

The nation watches and sneers as the board beneath creaks!

As the heads of these perverts are finally hanged in shame

The legs and all, tremble and thrash around

As the six men finally hang there, limp and lifeless!

But tell me dear friend is this the end?

Six rotten apples in a failing orchard

Getting rid of them, will it save the crop?

Six black threads in a mis-woven yarn

Can plucking them, correct the fabric of society?

Looking outward, outside the window it’s easy to spot extremes!

But who else but you, can see the rotting within?

Blame as a game is easy; and hatred can seemingly give you a clean coat

With Disgust you can distance yourself, and with anger let loose,

You can even bring the city down!

But this way friend, who are you fooling?

You gather as crowds, motivated by fear

But when it comes to vote, will you all still stand up?

You condemn inequality, while you flaunt your wealth

You condemn violence, while you go about your business with arrogant aggression

You condemn rape, while you blatantly pursue your lust

You claim equality for women; but you bulldoze your way with chauvinism

Yet you condemn society; while you still live as you please

Tell me dear friend; Are you truly different from those six men?

If you can see the hurt and deprivation behind the vandals of violence

The terror within the anger; the hopelessness within   carelessness

If you can see the desperation within selfishness; and the oppression behind aggression

You too can see the city burning! You too can see the world with Love!

Now that your heart is filled with love and compassion!

Tell me dear friend!  Can you can see the six dried up trees in a drought hit forest

Can you see that all the trees drying! Can you feel the dry earth beneath your ground?

Tell me dear friend! What else can we do but pray for the shower of Love!

BECOME LOVE

Break open the prison of your mind
Tulip garden - Blue Mosque - Istanbul

And free your self from your petty existence

Die to your pointless self, and wake up to the eternity of love

As the barriers of love are gently blown away

Feel yourself  rise with the mighty ocean

Feel yourself expand and become the heavenly sky

Feel the music of love spread her mystical fragrance

As the brilliant light of love finally becomes you

In this warmth of this everlasting love

Feel yourself in every stranger’s heart

Feel yourself in every dying soul

Yet with all the impermanence and decay around you

Feel yourself basking in the comfort of eternity

As love is all there is, and love is all there will be

As you break open the prison of your mind

Become love, and become free !

THE EYE OF EMPATHY

Hats and robes you may wear

But in your heart, do you care?

For mindless deeds that often hurt

Thoughtless words that you do blurt

Of  innocent minds that you subtly bleed

An extra morsel kept away, in hidden greed

But don’t you see my noble friend

That your life too, will one day end

The subtle things that you do today

Will be done to you, another day

The ones you despise with scornful glances

Could just be you,  in another set of circumstances

So open your eyes to the world of love and empathy

See the threatened man hiding,  behind some pompous  name

See his human heart bleeding, beyond his  glory, shame and fame

Deeper to your skin,  my noble friend; aren't  we all just the same !

Mere shadows playing,  to the dance of the same sacred flame

The world is vast and wide; yet from death,  no one can hide

So, you too my noble friend, will not last for eternity

But happy you shall live and happy you shall die

With the compassionate eyes of  love and empathy!
