SERPENT WITHIN

Wordless cravings , writhing within!

Urging actions, forbidden!

Green was the apple; when eve had bitten!

Heed not oh soul; to the serpent within!

PRURIENT FROG

Adding greenery to familiarity

In the coldness of the pond near by

Croaking aloud, croaking in the dark!

Oh insatiable, prurient frog!

Every ripple, speaks of your presence!

Every leaf, resonates of your desire!

As you violently spoil the sentient silence

What fires in your proto-reptilian mind?

As you croak away, to the urge for culmination

Croaking away  hoping for final fulfillment

Oh little frog, lost in your blinded pursuit

Did you not realize its loud consequence?

Did the confined space of your amphibian intellect

Not reveal the slithering approach of the fangs of death

Did you not know, that it’s your croaking?

Oh prurient frog! Who can save you now from your serpentine end!

SIX MEN IN A ROTTING SOCIETY

The eager hangman waits his turn, to pull the fateful lever!

The crowds gather around, in feverish cheer!

The guilty are paraded; naked and neutered except for their noose

The nation watches and sneers as the board beneath creaks!

As the heads of these perverts are finally hanged in shame

The legs and all, tremble and thrash around

As the six men finally hang there, limp and lifeless!

But tell me dear friend is this the end?

Six rotten apples in a failing orchard

Getting rid of them, will it save the crop?

Six black threads in a mis-woven yarn

Can plucking them, correct the fabric of society?

Looking outward, outside the window it’s easy to spot extremes!

But who else but you, can see the rotting within?

Blame as a game is easy; and hatred can seemingly give you a clean coat

With Disgust you can distance yourself, and with anger let loose,

You can even bring the city down!

But this way friend, who are you fooling?

You gather as crowds, motivated by fear

But when it comes to vote, will you all still stand up?

You condemn inequality, while you flaunt your wealth

You condemn violence, while you go about your business with arrogant aggression

You condemn rape, while you blatantly pursue your lust

You claim equality for women; but you bulldoze your way with chauvinism

Yet you condemn society; while you still live as you please

Tell me dear friend; Are you truly different from those six men?

If you can see the hurt and deprivation behind the vandals of violence

The terror within the anger; the hopelessness within   carelessness

If you can see the desperation within selfishness; and the oppression behind aggression

You too can see the city burning! You too can see the world with Love!

Now that your heart is filled with love and compassion!

Tell me dear friend!  Can you can see the six dried up trees in a drought hit forest

Can you see that all the trees drying! Can you feel the dry earth beneath your ground?

Tell me dear friend! What else can we do but pray for the shower of Love!

TURTLE TRAINER

Oh mighty turtle trainer!  How patient thou art!

TURTLE TRAINER- by Osman Hamdi -1906-Turkey

Five Little monsters with minds of their own

How hard you try to train them!

Their ultimate master you may be

But with minds and shells frozen in time

How can you ever control them?

The   turtle of vision, chewing on hedonic cabbage and the lettuce of lust

Can you make him sip the still waters of your mind?

The turtle of hearing, wandering in the waters of rumour and gossip

Can you make him listen to the music of love?

The turtle of smell, judging and dividing the world into shades of good and bad

Can you make him smell the tolerant fragrance of compassion?

The turtle of taste, always seeking solace in greed and gluttony

Can you make him eat the dried up leaves of altruism

The turtle of touch, always seeking comfort and pleasure

Can you make him obey the cane of self discipline?

Oh Mighty turtle trainer of the monstrous mind! How great thou art!

Five little sense monsters you seek to tame!

How great is thy patience! How great is thy perseverance!

FALL FROM EDEN

From joyful fountains of Eden

I have fallen into this hell hole of today

Oh, what venomous fruit did I bite?

Innocent I was in love and life

What wrong footed twist of fate

Has led me to this serpentine misery!

With tied up hands I yearn to swim

While this whirlpool of my mind churns me

Oh what divine hand shall reach out to me?

Reach out, and raise me from the dead!

LURING GREEN

Luring mountains of lavish green

Greener pastures of expectation

Lurking wolves and sleazy foxes

Innocent lambs grazing

Black sheep masquerading

Venomous serpents in camouflage

All for some juicy blades of grass!

A FACE THAT LAUNCHED A THOUSAND SHIPS

When the sail of your mind is unfurled free

And the blizzard of desire is still blowing

Even a face can launch a thousand ships!

But if beauty resides in the eyes of the sailor

And passion sits at his wheel

Is it not luring lust, which launched the ill-fated vessels?

Sailing without a destination, as mindless passion’s slave

Attached to the anchor of desire, even as it drags you to your grave

Is there no saner ruler, for this sailing mind?

A captain, to guide with reason; a treasure trove, of truth to find

Oh sailing mind of mine! Can the captain of reason, rein the helm of wild passion!

When he is blinded and wrapped, in his ego’s inner jib

Can he withstand, the whirling wheel, and the torque of desire?

When his hands are charred in lust’s ravishing fire

Can he still grip and guide the sailing ship

Can he sail it to the land of the hidden truth !

Oh captain of my soul, sailing my mind

Can a kind heart; and not a pretty face

 Move your thousand sailors!

THE FIVE HINDRANCES

Oh lonesome mind, where do you wander?

You have scaled up the mightly mountain of mindfulness

Yet at the lofty peak of wisdom, you stray at mere pittances!

Oh lonesome wandering mind!

Be thou beware of the five hindrances!

Fogged by form; an empty treasure

Luring lust, and sensual pleasure

Makes you crave, and make you suffer

Luring lust and sensual pleasure

Oh lonesome wandering mind!

Beware of the first of the hindrances!

The masters of life’s most deplorable state

Ill will, anger, and morbid hate

They form and fuel, every negative trait

And Lead the world, to an apocalyptic fate

Ill will, anger, and morbid hate

Oh lonesome wandering mind !

Beware of the second of the hindrances!

Motivational inertia, so easy to harbor

Laziness, sloth and torpor

Makes you slip and makes you sleep

Makes creep when you should leap

Laziness sloth and Torpor

Oh, lonesome wandering mind!

Beware of  the third of the hindrances!

Rippling the placid mind; gurgling it  in a flurry

Restlessness anxiety and pointless worry

Kills the now and breaks the merry

Ruminations of negativity  in an anxious slurry

Restlessness anxiety and pointless worry

Oh lonesome wandering mind !

Beware of the fourth of the hindrances!

A blunted knife of reason; filled with naivety and flout

Untested beliefs and unreasonable doubts

Pointless skepticism and hasty conjecture

With mindless superstition and carelessness that sprouts

Untested belief and unreasonable doubts

Oh lonesome wandering mind!

Beware of the fifth of the hindrances !

Oh lonesome mind! Don’t you wander!

You have scaled up the mighty  mountain of mindfulness

Yet at the lofty peak of wisdom, don’t you stray!

Oh lonesome  wandering mind!

Be thous beware of the five hindrances

Fogged by form; an empty treasure

Luring lust and sensual pleasure

The masters of life’s most deplorable state

Ill will, anger and morbid hate

Motivational inertia, so easy to harbor

Laziness sloth and Torpor

Ruminations of negativity  in an anxious slurry

Restlessness anxiety and pointless worry

A bunted knife of reason; filled with naivety and flout

Untested beliefs and unreasonable doubts

Oh lonesome wandering mind

As you scale the mighty mountain of mindfulness

Be thou beware of the five hindrances !!
