BUDDING MISERY

Ever so careful

Not to cause the slightest pain

Soft on the ends

And flexible in the middle

I’m your best friend!

Especially when the itch is out of reach

Yet! Alas!

All I get is used, smeared and thrown

Oh! How miserable!

My life as an ear bud!

DARKNESS REMAINS

The storm ceases

Dark clouds pass away

But alas!

The sun has already set

Darkness remains !

PRODIGAL CHICK

The rain was heavy

The wind was strong

The shreds of the nest

Of the sparrow’s above

Lie scattered below!

In the slushy garden floor

Close to a puddle

Cold and shivering

Naked, featherless

Barely alive!

Chirping still!

Lay the fallen chick!

Mama and papa! Help!

She must have chirped

But in the pattering of the rain

Everything seemed to drown

Now exposed to the elements

In a sudden twist of fate

There she was! Just left to die!

Blue umbrella in hand!

Splashing through the puddles

Jack was in a hurry!

But something stopped him

A chirp, a squirm

A moving form

Ah! A little birdie!

A poor little one! He says!

 His heart was moved

Compassion flowed

With tender hands of Love

He picked up her up!

A tear or two

He must have shed !

In a cut out milk carton

Stuffed with warm gray wool

He gently placed her

 Chirp!  Chirp!

Is all that she could mange

As she snuggled into the warmth

He found the crevice her nest was once hidden

He ran to the garden

Fetched a wooden ladder

And gently placed her

He heard some chirping

Patiently he waited

Soon a pair appeared

Sparrows!

Mama and papa!

He sighed with relief

His heart filled with happiness

His soul beamed with compassion

As he reached home now as a more complete man

He prayed and sat down

Only to enjoy his favorite meal

Roasted chick-en!

SERPENT WITHIN

Wordless cravings , writhing within!

Urging actions, forbidden!

Green was the apple; when eve had bitten!

Heed not oh soul; to the serpent within!

WUTHERING WOOS

Vitriolic wishes!

Wuthering woos!

Vanquished and vandalized!

A vicious mind vindicating passion!

Oh how Venomous can it get!

PLASTIC FOSSILS

Waving blatant flags of victory, on this frosty peak of evolution
Oh mighty mankind!
Can’t you see the doomed horizon?
Can’t you see your numbered days?
Still warm from the pantry of the primordial soup
 With selection, variability and adaptation
You humbly entered this treacherous game of natural selection!
From growing organelles and spines; to limbs and brains
You have indeed come a long way!
From tree trunks and dangling tails
Clubs and spears and torching fires
To guns and bombs, and even medicine!
You steadily scaled this evolutionary ladder
Yet!  Oh mighty mankind!
Why have you not learnt to love one another?

Stuck with single minded simplex minds
Clinging to the delusion of the ‘self ‘
Driven by the pleasures of the present and proximal
Gathering with greed, and fending with hate
Your narrow bread basket of self-interest!
In this colossal game of the Survival of the fittest!
How long can you remain the formidable?

Sentience, person-
hood and consciousness have blessed you!
And have made you rise above the shoulders of the rest of nature’s creation
But by the virtue of having grown a head; a head full of gyriform grey intellect
Is it not your duty to sustain the helpless body of life?
With eyes to see beyond the chin; minds to think in anticipation
And intelligence, even to offer self regulation
Why is it still, you keep chewing at your own feet!

With teeth ragged with selfishness, digging into your own rotting flesh
Drinking the contaminated blood off your very own frail neck
How long can you hold up your pompous head?
Having pushed, the all embracing planet to this very sapless brink
It’s not survival of the fittest; but survival of the sustainable
That can save this bleeding planet’s fate
Oh mighty mankind!
Learn to love, and learn to live! Before it’s too late!
Learn to sustain the rest of nature’s creation!
For a sixty million years from now
When sentient lizards shall again roam!
Only your plastic fossils will speak!

SHEPHERD OF MY SOUL

To green pastures and clear waters, from time unknown, you have lead me!

You trusted me, when I deserted you for other pastures

You fed me, when the grass was dry, and the sky was overcast

You protected me, when the wolves of suffering surrounded me

And welcomed me back with open arms, when I wandered away

Yet, in this lonely pasture of today, I yearn for your missing staff

Oh shepherd of my soul!  My only benevolent redeemer!

Lead me to me to your very home!

DANCING LARVAE

Dancing larvae in the palace pond

Look what you become!

Little monsters driven by unfortunate fate

Feeding remorselessly on royal blood

The royal blood of the king!

Oh winged warriors of dirt and disease

Even if you change form, and choose to reform

Even if you become noble in trait

Can you ever become, the almighty king?

Ideas and passions, you may have many

But how limited is your destiny!

Oh ,dancing larvae in the palace pond

Just drink your blood and be merry!

THE HEINOUS FACE OF HUMAN NATURE

Black and white, and shades of gray

Love and war; in work and play

What makes you skip; what makes you stay?

Oh! This world of stealth and prey!

Rosy words, may paint the front

But  thorny backs, do bear the brunt

Locks of hatred, under smiling hats

Brothers in arms yet racing rats!

Slithering serpents on a selfish trail

Another life form beneath the veil

Filthy in feelings, and stooping in stature

Insightful yet an  unsightly creature

Oh! How monstrous, is the heinous  face of  human nature!

HANDS OF WISDOM

Two hands and a single mind

Friends forever of the uneven kind

For the right hand writes, many a song and poetry

While the left is sidelined in the shadow of, right’s artistic mastery

Yet, the right hand claims no pride; and the left fields no jealousy

The left doesn’t crib; and right doesn’t brag egotic supremacy

And often times, during chores of hammering in a nail

The right hand slips and smashes the left’s unfortunate, little finger's nail

The guilty right, drops the hammer and soothes the left in undivided compassion

Even so, the left doesn’t grab the hammer   , to smash back in retaliation

Thus is the unity of two hands, in ego-less collaboration

Thus is the wisdom of nondiscrimination; of self less love; life's only salvation

THE FLY

Hovering and savoring the muck rotten by

I am the humble, measly fly

Not much up above; and not the sky so high

I may be puny; yet I can fly

I wallow in the dung and I live in the filth

Yet, do not hoard up or crave for wealth

Rotten and recycled; is the food I eat

Yet, I do not kill; I don’t cheat

I live in merry and freely breed

Yet I am no slave to master greed

I cherish the loo or a dirty plate

Yet I am not overwhelmed by morbid hate

I do not think, though I often stink

Yet, I do not push the world to the brink

So don’t judge me just by my insignificant size

Don’t judge me for my deeds and my innocent vice

For you are just me;  just a bigger me

Seeing life through some other compound eyes

You are no better!

You are no better in character nor in vice

 So see me with compassion

See me with compassionate eyes

For I’m the humble and measly fly

Who didn’t choose to; yet, still can fly

I am the humble, measly fly
